Leon Poynter

Leon Poynter (born 1970) is a contemporary realist painter dedicated to preserving and advancing the traditions of

The Old Masters.

Born into a family of artists and creatives, his work is deeply rooted in generations of fine art practice, drawing upon the rigorous techniques and timeless principles of classical painting.

Poynter revives the rigorous methods of classical realism to create works that capture the spirit and soul of the 21st century.

His paintings are held in private collections internationally, including the United States, China, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Switzerland, Japan, Italy, South Korea, and the Netherlands. Recognised for his mastery of light, form, atmosphere, and realism, Poynter’s work bridges centuries of artistic tradition with a contemporary sensibility.

Poynter’s artistic influences include the great masters of European painting such as Rembrandt van Rijn, Johannes Vermeer, Caravaggio, Diego Velázquez, John Singer Sargent, Peter Paul Rubens, Anthony van Dyck, Francisco Goya, Frans Hals, and J. M. W. Turner, alongside leading contemporary classical realists including Piotr Topolski, Roberto Ferri, Odd Nerdrum, and Jeremy Lipking.

Through these influences, Poynter continues the lineage of classical realism while developing a distinctive artistic voice of his own.
